Recommended Posts

Welcome all, and thank you for offering to beta test OpenSceneryX v4.0.0.

The purpose of this forum is to capture any issues, bugs or feedback from the new release. Before posting a new thread, please take a look through to make sure nobody else has posted the same issue. If you have found an issue that isn't being discussed already, please feel free to post a new thread.

Instructions

  1. If you don't have a separate complete X-Plane® install for testing, I suggest you take a copy of your existing OpenSceneryX folder (from X-Plane/Custom Scenery/OpenSceneryX) and keep it in a safe place.  Then you can always revert to that version if things don't work with this beta.
  2. The new library v4.0.0 needs the new installer v2.5.0b1. Download it from here:
  3. Install it by dragging it out of the .dmg (Mac) or extracting the .zip (Windows / Linux) and run it.
  4. The first time you install this beta it will install a lot of files.  Over the top of an existing v3.2.0 install, expect about 6000 files, for a clean install expect over 9000.
  5. Please test with as many scenery packages as possible.
  6. Please test with whichever seasons plugin(s) you have. If you don't have any seasons plugins, please feel free to test the 'X-Plane' mode, or with seasons disabled.
  7. All testing is valuable - if you just want to fly around as usual, that's fine, but don't keep quiet if you think you have found an issue.
  8. If you find what you think is a problem, it would be very helpful if you can test the same scenario with the current version of OpenSceneryX (v3.2.0) too, to make sure the issue really is with v4.0.0.
  9. If you are reporting an issue, please give as much detail as possible, including where in the world you are located, what you see and what you expected to see.  Include your Log.txt file as an attachment to the post.

Known Issues

  1. The new installer is not fully localised yet.
  2. OverlayEditor doesn't understand the seasons. If you want to use OE to edit scenery, first run the OpenSceneryX installer and disable seasons. This is fixed from beta 2.

Beta 4 Changes

  • Realised that many seasonal variants of vegetation objects are identical or nearly identical to each other, so did a full audit and removed all variants that don't have noticeable differences. Reduces the number of objects in the library by over 2000.

Beta 3 Changes

  • Modified the integration with Four Seasons plugin to fix snowy winter textures and to implement new 'patchy snow' mode in Four Seasons.

Beta 2 Changes

  • Implemented fix to make OSX 4 work with OverlayEditor
  • Fixed missing TEXTURE_NORMAL in oil fired power station.

OpenSceneryX v4.0.0 Release Notes

  • New scenery objects in this version:
    • Incorporated DT Library by Darrell Thompson into OpenSceneryX, which includes a large set of markings suitable for small to medium airports.
    • einstein has contributed seasonal variants (autumn and winter without snow) for the original OpenSceneryX tree forests. This enables autumn and winter (without snow) for any sceneries that use originl OpenSceneryX forests, as well as most of the individual plant and tree objects.
    • madmaxland has contributed a spring seasonal variant for the original OpenSceneryX tree forests. This enables springtime for any sceneries that use originl OpenSceneryX forests, as well as most of the individual plant and tree objects.
    • FlyAgi has contributed seasonal variants (autumn, winter mild and winter deep) for all his vegetation forests.
  • Modified scenery objects in this version:
    • The runway closed 'X' marking has been replaced by an improved version from DT Library which includes normals.
    • Some aircraft, both jets and props, are now incorporated into the X-Plane® static aircraft system.
  • Other changes:
    • Major new feature: Support for seasons. OpenSceneryX now exports seasonal regions compatible with core X-Plane, the Four Seasons plugin, the TerraMaxx plugin and the xAmbience plugin. Seasonal support is optional and can be chosen on install. Note that we only support seasons for library contributions that have seasonal alternatives.
    • Major new feature: Support for injecting OpenSceneryX items into X-Plane® built-in libraries. This can be used to enhance the X-Plane automatic object placement and autogen. This is optional and can be selected on install. Currently some of the OpenSceneryX aircraft are exported to be used for static aircraft around airports.
    • Updated the Backup Library to v2.2.0
    • The library still includes the Backup Library but it is now separate and the installer gives the choice of using or not using it.
    • The website now provides more information about lines in the library - layer group, layer offset, line width and whether the line is mirrored.
    • The website now provides more information about objects in the library - whether they have multiple LODs, custom lights, named lights, parameterised lights, spill lighting, whether the object tilts on uneven ground and whether it emits black or white smoke. Also, objects are marked as 'animated' automatically now, by directly examining the .obj file for animation commands.
    • Markdown is now supported for all descriptions of items. This is automatically converted to HTML for publishing on the website. Many descriptions that were being squashed down to a single paragraph have been rewritten using Markdown and tables, e.g. many of the polygons, making them far more readable.

Installer v2.5.0 Release Notes

  • Support for seasons. OpenSceneryX now exports seasonal regions compatible with core X-Plane®, the Four Seasons plugin, the TerraMaxx plugin and the xAmbience plugin. Seasonal support is optional and can be chosen at install. Note that we only support seasons for library contributions that have seasonal alternatives.

  • Added placeholders for Autogen points (.agp) and Decal (.dcl) files.

  • Updated XML parsing code and moved preferences loading code to hopefully eliminate silent crashes on load for some users (especially on Windows 7 and Windows 10).

  • The library still includes the Backup Library but it is now separate and the installer gives the choice of using or not using it.

  • The library now includes exports for the core X-Plane® static aircraft library, which integrates some of the OpenSceneryX aircraft with X-Plane, allowing the sim to use OpenScenery when placing its static aircraft. The installer now gives the user the choice of whether this should happen.
