  1. By the way, does OpenSceneryX 3.2.0 still work for you in OE?
  2. Interesting. I wonder whether OE is running out of memory, though a crash would be more usual in that case. Perhaps it can't handle the large groups of seasonal REGION entries. I have a tiny involvement with OE, as I recently rebuilt the Mac version to run on the latest macOS (it was failing to launch) so if I get a moment I'll see whether a fix is obvious. Otherwise, Jonathan (Marginal) will have to be involved. Not sure what you mean. I haven't made any updates to OSX since the 6th March when I fixed this issue. Best wishes and thank you for spending time testing, Austin G.
  3. That's really positive news, thank you very much for spending the time to test. It's good to hear you haven't found any issues across the large number of sceneries you have installed.
  4. Thank you very much, please take a look at https://forum.thresholdx.net/forum/163-beta-testing-v400/ where the testing is being managed.
  5. Hi, Thank you for volunteering to test. My main priority is to get as many people to install it and run X-Plane normally, to check it is working across as wide a range of scenery packages as possible and doesn't cause any strange or unexpected behaviour. This includes both seasons and static aircraft auto-placement. If you would like to take it a step further and start building and testing scenery for seasonal changes, that would be fantastic but I can't really offer a structured plan for that. The only items affected at the moment are the vegetation (including forests of grass, plants and trees as well as individual plant objects) so I suggest you concentrate on those. Note that seasons should be applied to the vegetation in all existing packages that use OpenSceneryX as well as new ones. Best wishes, Austin G.
  6. Ok, I've done a full audit and the following items hadn't uploaded: /lines/solid_lines/red_on_black/line.lin /forests/grass/12/0.7-1.0m/forest.for /forests/grass/4/0.7-1.0m/forest.for /forests/plants/asteraceae/2/0.5-0.7m/forest.for /forests/plants/asteraceae/3/0.3-0.4m/forest.for /forests/plants/asteraceae/3/0.6-0.9m/forest.for /forests/plants/asteraceae/3/0.4-0.6m/forest.for /forests/plants/laurus/1/4.5-9.0m/forest.for /objects/vegetation/quercus/17/6m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/quercus/16/12m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/quercus/16/8m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/quercus/16/6m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/quercus/16/10m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/corylus/1/12m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/corylus/1/8m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/corylus/1/14m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/corylus/1/10m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/acer/3/8m/object.obj /objects/vegetation/acer/3/14m/object.obj This would have caused two problems: As @172MC discovered, as these all reference a texture that has been moved, any scenery packages that use them would throw an error in X-Plane. The installer would download these items every time it ran. These are now all fixed. I'm a bit worried for future deploys though - If synching up to the server is no longer reliable, errors like this could creep into every deploy. I'll put this into my post-release testing in future. Cheers, Austin G.
  7. Well that's weird. It seems that the upload of the new version to the hosting platform didn't update that file. Which is a worry, as I don't know which other files it may have missed. That one is fixed, but I'll need to do an analysis of this to find out what else was missed. You will occasionally see empty folders - that's fine, the installer only works with files, so it doesn't care about folders apart from that they exist. I could improve the logic to check whether to delete the containing folder whenever it deletes a file, but it's not a biggie.
  8. Sorry, I'm a complete idiot. Please try again. It means if you run it in a language other than English, you will see some English phrases and messages.
  9. Thank you very much to all who have agreed to test the new release. Beta testing is now open in this forum: https://forum.thresholdx.net/forum/163-beta-testing-v400/
  10. Welcome all, and thank you for offering to beta test OpenSceneryX v4.0.0. The purpose of this forum is to capture any issues, bugs or feedback from the new release. Before posting a new thread, please take a look through to make sure nobody else has posted the same issue. If you have found an issue that isn't being discussed already, please feel free to post a new thread. Instructions If you don't have a separate complete X-Plane® install for testing, I suggest you take a copy of your existing OpenSceneryX folder (from X-Plane/Custom Scenery/OpenSceneryX) and keep it in a safe place. Then you can always revert to that version if things don't work with this beta. The new library v4.0.0 needs the new installer v2.5.0b1. Download it from here: Mac Windows Linux – x86-64 Linux – x86-32 Linux – ARM-32 Install it by dragging it out of the .dmg (Mac) or extracting the .zip (Windows / Linux) and run it. The first time you install this beta it will install a lot of files. Over the top of an existing v3.2.0 install, expect about 6000 files, for a clean install expect over 9000. Please test with as many scenery packages as possible. Please test with whichever seasons plugin(s) you have. If you don't have any seasons plugins, please feel free to test the 'X-Plane' mode, or with seasons disabled. All testing is valuable - if you just want to fly around as usual, that's fine, but don't keep quiet if you think you have found an issue. If you find what you think is a problem, it would be very helpful if you can test the same scenario with the current version of OpenSceneryX (v3.2.0) too, to make sure the issue really is with v4.0.0. If you are reporting an issue, please give as much detail as possible, including where in the world you are located, what you see and what you expected to see. Include your Log.txt file as an attachment to the post. Known Issues The new installer is not fully localised yet. OverlayEditor doesn't understand the seasons. If you want to use OE to edit scenery, first run the OpenSceneryX installer and disable seasons. This is fixed from beta 2. Beta 4 Changes Realised that many seasonal variants of vegetation objects are identical or nearly identical to each other, so did a full audit and removed all variants that don't have noticeable differences. Reduces the number of objects in the library by over 2000. Beta 3 Changes Modified the integration with Four Seasons plugin to fix snowy winter textures and to implement new 'patchy snow' mode in Four Seasons. Beta 2 Changes Implemented fix to make OSX 4 work with OverlayEditor Fixed missing TEXTURE_NORMAL in oil fired power station. OpenSceneryX v4.0.0 Release Notes New scenery objects in this version: Incorporated DT Library by Darrell Thompson into OpenSceneryX, which includes a large set of markings suitable for small to medium airports. einstein has contributed seasonal variants (autumn and winter without snow) for the original OpenSceneryX tree forests. This enables autumn and winter (without snow) for any sceneries that use originl OpenSceneryX forests, as well as most of the individual plant and tree objects. madmaxland has contributed a spring seasonal variant for the original OpenSceneryX tree forests. This enables springtime for any sceneries that use originl OpenSceneryX forests, as well as most of the individual plant and tree objects. FlyAgi has contributed seasonal variants (autumn, winter mild and winter deep) for all his vegetation forests. Modified scenery objects in this version: The runway closed 'X' marking has been replaced by an improved version from DT Library which includes normals. Some aircraft, both jets and props, are now incorporated into the X-Plane® static aircraft system. Other changes: Major new feature: Support for seasons. OpenSceneryX now exports seasonal regions compatible with core X-Plane, the Four Seasons plugin, the TerraMaxx plugin and the xAmbience plugin. Seasonal support is optional and can be chosen on install. Note that we only support seasons for library contributions that have seasonal alternatives. Major new feature: Support for injecting OpenSceneryX items into X-Plane® built-in libraries. This can be used to enhance the X-Plane automatic object placement and autogen. This is optional and can be selected on install. Currently some of the OpenSceneryX aircraft are exported to be used for static aircraft around airports. Updated the Backup Library to v2.2.0 The library still includes the Backup Library but it is now separate and the installer gives the choice of using or not using it. The website now provides more information about lines in the library - layer group, layer offset, line width and whether the line is mirrored. The website now provides more information about objects in the library - whether they have multiple LODs, custom lights, named lights, parameterised lights, spill lighting, whether the object tilts on uneven ground and whether it emits black or white smoke. Also, objects are marked as 'animated' automatically now, by directly examining the .obj file for animation commands. Markdown is now supported for all descriptions of items. This is automatically converted to HTML for publishing on the website. Many descriptions that were being squashed down to a single paragraph have been rewritten using Markdown and tables, e.g. many of the polygons, making them far more readable. Installer v2.5.0 Release Notes Support for seasons. OpenSceneryX now exports seasonal regions compatible with core X-Plane®, the Four Seasons plugin, the TerraMaxx plugin and the xAmbience plugin. Seasonal support is optional and can be chosen at install. Note that we only support seasons for library contributions that have seasonal alternatives. Added placeholders for Autogen points (.agp) and Decal (.dcl) files. Updated XML parsing code and moved preferences loading code to hopefully eliminate silent crashes on load for some users (especially on Windows 7 and Windows 10). The library still includes the Backup Library but it is now separate and the installer gives the choice of using or not using it. The library now includes exports for the core X-Plane® static aircraft library, which integrates some of the OpenSceneryX aircraft with X-Plane, allowing the sim to use OpenScenery when placing its static aircraft. The installer now gives the user the choice of whether this should happen.
  11. The next release of OpenSceneryX will have three major changes included: Seasons. Seasonal changes will be supported throughout the library, though please note that only the vegetation (both objects and forests) will have these variations on launch of this feature, as we currently only have seasonal contributions for vegetation. The choice of how seasons are selected will be yours at install-time: No seasons (summer all the time) Built-in X-Plane using a crude mechanism based on the date in the year and two rough regional areas in the northern and southern hemispheres The Four Seasons plugin The Terramaxx plugin The xAmbience plugin Integration with built-in X-Plane libraries. OpenSceneryX will be able to inject its content into into the X-Plane built-in scenery placement system. For the launch of this feature, this will involve exporting a bunch of our aircraft into the X-Plane static aircraft system, so that OSX static aircraft will be automatically placed by the sim around airports. In future it could include other things like autogen vegetation. The choice of whether to enable this feature will be yours at install-time. Option to Disable the Backup Library. The Backup Library contains placeholders for all the main X-Plane libraries. This has been automatically included with OpenSceneryX for a while now, but it has recently expanded to include all 47 known libraries. When installed, it stops X-Plane warning about missing scenery on startup but some users would prefer that it isn't installed so they can see these warnings. The OSX installer will be enhanced to allow this to be completely disabled. As you can see, these are some major changes, and I can't test to see how these changes might affect various X-Plane installs. For this reason I would like to gather together a few willing testers to try it out in advance of dropping the changes on all 10k+ users, in case I need to iron out some bugs. Could you post a reply if you would like to be involved. It would be useful to know whether you have any of the plugins listed above. Depending on time pressures, I expect the beta release will be w/c 4th March or 11th March. Obviously this may change. Any help would be really appreciated! Best wishes, Austin G.
  12. Thanks Magnus. The reason I've reached out to everyone I could find who is working with seasons is that by default all OpenSceneryX objects will display summer versions. Although not so bad for spring and autumn, this looks strange if a plugin changes the ground textures to snow and everything sitting on top is green. Of course, that only holds if the plugin delivers snowy textures in the first place, which is another story…
  13. Thanks Magnus, Although I could hook into your env/snow dataref, it doesn't feel quite right as that's not really a seasonal change, more of a local weather condition. If you implement any further seasonal features in future, let me know and we can discuss incorporating support within OpenSceneryX. Best wishes, Austin G.
  14. Hi, I’ve been putting a lot of hours recently into supporting seasons in OpenSceneryX, and I think I have it mostly ready for release. This will include support (chosen by the user) for the following season switching mechanisms: Disable OpenSceneryX seasons - no seasonal support at all, default (summer) objects / forests etc all the time X-Plane built-in dataref: Use a combination of the sim/time/local_date_days dataref and regional bitmaps to define when and where to show seasonal changes. Four Seasons Plugin: Use the nm/four_seasons/season dataref that this plugin publishes to determine the season. TerraMaxx Plugin: Use the maxxxp/seasonsxp/is_autumn, maxxxp/seasonsxp/is_winter etc. datarefs that this plugin publishes to determine the season. xAmbience Plugin: Use the xambience/custom/seasons/cur dataref that this plug-in publishes to determine the season. So I think you can guess where this is going: I see that support for Seasons is in the xEnviro roadmap, so would you like to work together to build support for your mechanism into OpenSceneryX? Best wishes, Austin G.
  15. Happy New Year Everyone! To celebrate 2019, there's a new release of OpenSceneryX out - v3.2.0. For the full details on what's new, take a look at the news post. As always, if you already have a recent version of the installer, just re-run it to update your install. If you need a new installer, grab it from the OpenSceneryX website. Have fun with the new stuff, and a huge thank you to all our contributors. Austin G.
