Follow Me, first use, some issues

Just bought Follow me. Really likeable plugin but I found some issues. See corresponding images. I' ve indicated the scenery where it happened

  • One airport I testen (LMML, Justsim) is not recognized at all. 
  • At some airports stands are deemed ' unreachable'  even when on taxiway next to the stand, or  on the chosen stand itself. (EPWA DD Design, LGRP FSDG)
  • In one case when turning of the runway the follow me drove through me in the opposite direction onto the runway. A then called another one, for an adjacent stand. The first one also caught up and then there were 2... (LGAV, FlyTampa)
  • In general there is a bias to the right. see picture in LGKO (Gaya), but also for example in EDDM (SFD) where the SAM VDGS is spot-on centerline but the marshaller has this same deviation about a meter to the right. It almost like it wants to put the captain seat on centerline instead of the nosewheel.. 

Not a bug but an improvement could be to have the marshaller drive of instead of just disappearing when engines off/ beacon off.

Hi Itamar,

thanks for your detailed feedback. Let's go through it:

  • One airport I testen (LMML, Justsim) is not recognized at all. ->  I can't confirm that, works fine for me. Please try to delete apt.cache in the scenery Earth nav data folder to force a database regeneration. If that doesn't help try my version: apt.cache 
  • At some airports stands are deemed ' unreachable'  even when on taxiway next to the stand, or  on the chosen stand itself. (EPWA DD Design, LGRP FSDG) -> First try deleting apt.cache here as well (we will do that automatically from SAM 2.1.6 on). Sometimes the route network is not sufficiant for a parking position which causes your mentioned message. In EPWA I found "LOT Service" parking position. There is no taxiroute network (yellow) nearby. Up to the scenery author to fix that or simply open the scenery in WED and add the routing. image.png.ae41c8195863c7ed43fb5e07934da3c1.png

It almost like it wants to put the captain seat on centerline instead of the nosewheel.. -> There is a pretty simple reason for that. FollowMe is based on the route and stand data saved in the scenery (created in WED). Depending on the workflow of the scenery developer this data is rather good or bad. In worst case the routing can be offset by meters from the taxiline or parking position visible in the scenery. DD EPWA is such a case. The blue circle (our debugging for parking positions) should be centered on the line but it isn't so the marshaller will be offset. The VDGS uses another technology and is not related to FollowMe in any way.

Finally SAM 2.1.5 has just been released. You may try that as well.

Hi Marten,  Thank you for your reply and advise.

Deleting apt.cache did indeed fix the issue at LMML but not at EPWA. In fact choosing multiple parking positions to find one that works caused a CTD. (X-plane log.txt included) . Might have been just to many lookups in succession, or something worth checking, I don't know.. 

PS this was before updating to 2.1.5

Sorry, already restarted Xplane since.. not yet able to reproduce the CTD... will try again and then send sam.log 

By the way, are you aware that updating SAM through the SAM suite deletes the Autogate 1.72 plugin? (physically deletes the folder from Xplane/recources/plugins)?  Quite annoying...

Tried to attach a file here - not sure how it works, though. So here is the sam.log, after I had exactly the same issue that the OP describes here: After having exited DD's EPWR via the end of rwy 13 onto taxiway A1, I was told for several parking positions that they were all unreachable (which they shouldn't be, as I even had just left from one of them for testing purposes). Then after choosing parking position #4 or so: CTD.

Had new XP sessions in the meantime, so no meaningful file available anymore.

What exactly do you mean by "SAM/dump files"? Don't see that currently within my SAM folder, but it could be something of that sort will be auto created upon said CTD.

Once I know what you mean, happy to re-test and send those files across.

Exactly, it will drop a file if the CTD is caused by SAM. If there is NO file even after a CTD that means the crash was not caused by our plugin. The SAM/logs file will also indicate a CTD in one of its last lines ("crash detected" or similar).

Laminar asked us to create our own dump because they were annoyed by getting ours in their support system so we splitted it up into SAM-related and rest-of-XP-world
