SAM v3 Linux support

Opening the SAM 3 Window in Linux currently causes Simulator to freeze. Browsing the "HOW_TO_INSTALL_AND_ACTIVATE.txt" I found the following line:

Quote

KNOWN ISSUES
- Linux + Steam: There is a known issue that currently prevents SAM3 on running on this configuration, you may run into a CTD when trying to run in this configuration.

Is SAM support on Linux abandoned? If not, any thoughts when a fix for this issue will be implemented?

This issue is only happening on specific Linux distributions and as we can't support them all this incompatibility can only be solved by using another environment.

Can you clarify what you mean by "this incompatibility can only be solved by using another environment". Is there a list of supported Linux environments? Or are you suggesting going to Windows/Mac?

I am currently running fully up to date Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. The only thing which is out of the ordinary regarding my setup is that I am running latest mesa gpu driver instead of the one packaged for 20.04.

No there isn't. We're on Ubuntu as well afaik which works well.

In fact it's not a direct problem with our plugin because that runs well on Linux. It's a problem with the steam authentication dll which is broken on Linux to some extent. That's why we can't solve the issue atm.

Did you buy the extensions at steam? If so it might help if we convert your purchase into a native license key to skip the steam check.

I see. No, I haven't bought any extensions through steam.

Until recently, before I migrated from Windows to Linux, I was mainly using SAM for it's base plugin (autogate functionality) via SAM 2 Suite. Beside this plugin I occasionally used Seasons + Vegetation libs. As I was setting up everything related to XP11 from scratch I noticed that there is a new version of SAM and I decided to set it up.

I managed yesterday to install version 2 under Linux via SAM 2 Suite via minor altering of some steam lib-curl library dependency (had to symlink to a newer version) and it seems to work fine for my needs. I will be sticking to this version until a fix is provided. Thank you for your support.
