Clouds still on hold. Work on clouds will continue soon though. But some basic atmosphere code structure is being put into place these days before clouds get more attention. This work is needed to get the atmosphere (where the clouds live) right before adding a lot of complicated LEGO bits on top. Tweaking the atmosphere like this has some really nice side effects for features to come in xEnviro 1.X ?  xEnviro's atmosphere engine uses real world data to predict the atmosphere's light properties and thus every day will be depicted differently. None of the images below have implemented clouds or haze effects yet. It's all atmosphere.

I won't be telling any more than that at this point enjoy the screenies. (Only default X-Plane11 +xEnviro 1.1WIP)

When we add haze/fog with xEnviros air particle calculations (not to be confused with particle system) we get some good grades of visibility and it plays well with the atmosphere on the ground. The dynamic weather depiction of the atmosphere calculations give some interesting day to day variations depending on the METAR values.

Just remember that this is what xEnviro looked like when we talked about server migrations earlier this week:

We are working with this now:

And we aim for this ?

Very nice progress! Are there already some API for scenery developers?

Looking so forward to 1.10 ! The 1.09 is already amazing, in my view. How is the performance yet? Can you say anything about it or will it change frequently?

Looking so forward and the new scattered clouds are freakin' awesome!!!

We can't predict anything at this point. We believe it will be way better than 1.09 performance wise. Easier to noise render volumetrically than on billboards. ?
For everything else it will come in due time. We're still mid build (not a hint on time estimate).

Appreciated! Thanks! If you are searching beta tester, you know where you can find me ?

(ALL IMAGES ARE DEFAULT X-PLANE11 + xEnviro + 73X Ultimate)

Atmosphere is in its final stages of development and being refined. No real time estimate on when we move to the next stage. But what we got looks very promising. The atmosphere calculations are dynamic based on weather data so no day is the same. Add haze on top of that and you have endless possibilities. Add clouds on top of that again and you have a living and breathing weather system. This is what we aim for and are getting much closer to achieving. Performance is still not known since we are still operating with loose LEGO sets and have to optimize when we assemble it all. Heaps better than 1.09 though.

Now you perhaps also understand why I haven't shown any clouds yet - we need all of this in place before we add the last layers so we don't have any loose ends to tie up when we want to take the leap into ADDING clouds in those snowy valleys.

Wait.... did I say snow?

I said snow didn't I? Not probable that it will be present in 1.10. But the foundation had to be laid down now before we move on to completion of the cloud behavior models. But here is a taste:
(not textures btw - this is dynamic snow layers based on altitude, weather and climate data and location - and yes, we know that there are two more seasons. More on this later)

(the first image without snow is completely default)

That's it for now ?

I have no idea why the forum decides to add all the pictures at the end of the post. I have to look into this.

I disagree. But you can always add MaxxEffects or ReShade to saturize as much as you want.

So and is done, but there is(were in 1.08-09) some bugs with these programs.fon-nebo2.jpg87724_1280_1024.jpg

By me,natural sky looks more blue(like 1.06 sky).

Cheers

You can't compare reality with photographs in any way. What bugs are you talking about? I have used maxxfx with all versions of XEnviro.

Okay, dispute is useless.I just expressed my opinion (although,to be honest, I heard it from other people as well).

And the bugs were related to performance and sometimes crashes.(don't say my hands are crooked)

Will this dynamic snow work with orthos? And will the dynamic snow build up as you fly?

Hi,

this information would be very interesting for me, as well. This would be great and I could save a lot of storrage space and delete the winter orthos for Germany... :classic_biggrin:

Many thanks for update

@Captain Kitten Looks quite impressive indeed. Keep up the great work ?

I haven't used Xenviro fully since XP10, and had some issues in XP11 that I never were able to solve, most likely due to other add-ons that weren't compatible, but it looks like the hard work put in the last year is starting to show off, so it's going to be interesting to follow the progress in this forum. I like that we now have four serious, passionate and skilled developers working on weather/environment solutions for X-plane 11. We will cheer you all across the finish line as this will help one side of the sim that is in much need of major overhaul. Thanks!

The color is a result of calculations based on real formulas found in science regarding light scattering and visual results of several calculations. It is therefore as close as we can get to what the real sky looks like - with deviations of course. But it's not a matter of "picking a color" or choosing a "sky texture". So if you feel it needs adjustments - then use a shader tool.

As for the question if the snow will work on ortho scenery: yes it will.
This effect is based on the atmosphere formula which is drawn from real time world weather data from several sources. So yes, it will build up and melt over time what ground textures you use is irrelevant.

But please, do NOT expect this to come in the next versions of xEnviro. The preperations for it is laid down now and it will be refined and worked on later.
